Take the Purina One SMARTBLEND True Instinct 28-Day Challenge #ONEDifference

Purina One

I was given this product to test at no cost, however all opinions and observations are my own.

Flashington Oscar – also know as Flash, Pooka-doo, Boogie Boy, Punky, Stretchy McGillicuddy and many variations thereof. Whatever you call him, we love our goofy dachshund, but he’s a little chunky. Because that breed is susceptible to back and joint problems, we’ve been working with our vet to help him drop a few pounds. He’s also gone a couple of rounds with pancreatitis, so we like to feed him good quality food for sensitive systems.  The Purina Challenge was a great opportunity to help Flash get back to his former svelte self and in a healthy way!

We went to our local pet store to pick up our bag of Purina One Smart Blend True Instinct – Flash loves going to the pet store! I guess it’s a popular variety of this brand as they were temporarily out of stock. After speaking with the manager about Flash’s needs, he recommended the Purina One SMARTBLEND Sensitive Systems. We signed up for the 28-Day Challenge (get $3 off* your first bag when you register for the 28-Day Challenge here) and got started that evening.

The  expert nutritionists at Purina One were inspired by a dog’s natural instinct to choose nutrient-dense foods in nature. That’s why True Instinct is formulated with real salmon as the number one ingredient, along with real tuna and other high quality ingredients, to provide the protein and energy active adult dogs need. Nature plus science helps provide 100% complete and balanced nutrition to support whole body health while satisfying your active adult dog’s true instinct. Flash is almost 7 years old – he’s in his prime! He should be at his most fit and active right now to enjoy this time of life. When we first began the Purina One 28-Day Challenge, he was a little sluggish, weighed in at a hefty 19 pounds and his coat didn’t seem as soft and shiny as it used to be.

Flash Purina One

The first thing we noticed is that Flash loved this food! He didn’t hesitate for a second before diving in. Flash has never really turned up his nose to any kind of food – the main reason we’re where we are now. However, if a super wagging tail and bouncing around excitement are any indication, he definitely seemed to enjoy the Purina One SmartBlend food more than his normal food.

He also didn’t have a problem transitioning to the new food. We were concerned that with his sensitive stomach there might be problem, but he had no stomach upset or other issues related to that.

As the days went by, we noticed an increase in his energy level and the gradual improvements in his coats, his eyes and even his teeth. He started bringing his toys to us to play with him and danced around his leash to ask for more walks. We noticed how much more excited he seems now when we get home from work – and not just because he needed to go out.

After a month of Purina One food, I’m happy to report that Flash has lost just over a pound! The vet is pleased and he passed her examination this past week. I’m a Purina One fan and it seems that Flash is, too. He’ll be staying on this healthier Purina One diet and reaping its benefits – more walks, more energy for playtime, shinier coat, fewer “sick” vet visits and a happier Mom.  I guess I’ll have to pay more attention to what I eat now so I can keep up with him!
