Getting Your Patio Ready for the Summer #DailyDoseofDesign Guest Post

Today, my daughter and I are beginning the last leg of our amazing trip. Once again, I’m thrilled to welcome my friend Adriana from Daily Dose of Design  with a truly timely guest post.  You’ll really enjoy her tips, recipes and fabulous “designer eye” and smart guidance! Be sure to visit and connect with her on social media (links at the end.) Daily Dose of Design is a blog you’ll want to read every day!

One of my favorite parts of summer is spending time on the outdoor patio/living space that we have in the back of our house. Especially at night – having friends and family over for a barbecue, some night swimming and making s’mores in the fire pit are some of my favorite things to do and make for the best memories ever! For those of you who live in a harsh winter area, it’s probably a given that your backyard space needs some TLC after taking a winter beating. Luckily, I love all things design and helping to get the yard ready for the warmth is one of my favorite Sunday Funday activities!

Whether you live somewhere with a small outdoor living space or somewhere with a large space to work with, there’s tons of super simple (and affordable for the most part) ways to have your backyard feeling new, fresh and dressed up – ready to go for those summer barbecues and parties!

  1. Adding color: having pretty flowers and landscaping gives such an inviting finish to a backyard space. Take a trip to a store like Home Depot and purchase some pretty flowers to plant or even hanging plants, which are easier to take care of. Some flowers that are easy to maintain and last a while are hydrangea, petunias, zinnia and sunflowers.

  1. Light it up: if the outdoor lighting you used last season survived the winter. Some awesome ideas for lighting are solar torches – the day’s sunshine charges their batteries and once its dark out, the light automatically shines up your backyard living space! They’re very economical and simple to use, too. You can purchase them here. I also love having strung lights inside an opened umbrella for some extra light like these!
  2. Cleaning and Organizing: having a clutter-free space and a clean, fresh, winter-free backyard area will make you feel super summer ready and leave you with an organized space. Here you can find a boatload of different dual storage benches that all would help create this clutter free living space we’re talking about!
  3. Seating: having the right amount of seating for your yard space makes a huge difference in the appearance. For example, with a big space you can have tons of bulky and big furniture but with a smaller space, you’re better off using furniture pieces such as colorful wicker chairs and loveseats, or bench seating with bright, fun patterned pillows to give your space a more open feel to it!

5. The super fun stuff: now we can get to my favorite part of creating any space – the décor!! Having outdoor accessories to further dress up your patio space makes it even more inviting. My go-to spot for all things décor is Home Goods, but there are also some other great spots to find the pretty accessories for this season, like Wayfair or Target:

It’s super easy to dress up an outdoor living space and I hope these tips and products help give you some inspiration to get ready for the upcoming summer nights!

Do you have any favorite design and decorating tips for a patio space?
