The SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel is the latest attraction for those living in and traveling to Atlanta, the capital of Georgia and home to Coca Cola, Martin Luther King, Jr., Jimmy Carter, the world’s largest aquarium, 1996 Olympics, the Braves, brand new panda baby twins and Gone With the Wind. The 200-foot-tall SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel, which made its inaugural revolution last month, comes equipped with 42 climate-controlled gondolas that each hold up to six people.
It is strategically located in Centennial Olympic Park, but it was originally part of a traveling program that visited several cities. Now, Atlanta is SkyView’s permanent home. “SkyView was originally in Paris right across the street from the Louvre Museum,” said a SkyView spokesman. “It was also in Switzerland for a little while, and then it was in Pensacola, Florida. Centennial Olympic Park was the perfect place for this attraction to make its forever home.” Ferris wheels have become very popular in cities, especially in Europe, where many cities, such as London and Paris, feature them.
Each ride, or “flight,” is four full revolutions, or about a 15-minute ride. Skyview Atlanta also offers a VIP gondola that features leather seats and a glass floor to make your flight the ultimate experience.
Hours of operations: Sunday-Thursday,10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
Prices (including tax): Adult, $14.45; senior, $13; military, $13; child, $9. Children under 2 go for free. (Each Gondola must have an adult riding with the children)
