MatchaDNA Black Matcha 1   I’m a coffee-aholic! It’s unfortunate because if you live in the South like I do, you know that this is sweet tea country. Until now, I’ve never been able to develop a taste for it. My dad drank tea every day while I was growing up. Even My daughter loves tea. Sometime last year, she convinced me to try not just green tea, but matcha tea.  After she presented her defense for her favorite drink, I was persuaded to give it a go.  To my surprise, the tea (and the crow I had to eat) was not bad.   Since then, I’ve been trying matcha green tea in a variety of recipes and found that I like it best in smoothies and baked goods. I’m really impressed with its health benefits and ok with the taste. When I learned about BLACK matcha tea, I was excited to try it, too. As purveyors of some of the finest green tea on earth, MatchaDNA offered me a bag to test and I think I’ve found a new friend!   Black Matcha Tea is a powdered blend of black and green matcha teas. Few people know that the current practice of drinking powdered tea in the Japanese tea ceremony is actually from the Song dynasty in China. It dates back to over 1,000 years ago. This practice was carried on in Japan and is now considered a pillar of Japanese culture. Today. once again high quality Matcha is being made in China. The tea has a slightly different character than its Japanese counterpart. Both teas have a deep green color and thick, savory taste and texture. Both are high in EGCG and antioxidants. However, our Chinese MatchaDNA is smoother, without the bitterness, and has rich, smooth and fresh taste.

My husband and I tried the Black Match Tea simply as tea. We prepared it according the package instructions and added a little agave. MatchaDNA Black Matcha 3 MatchaDNA Black Matcha 4 This matcha tea is very smooth and in no way bitter. It’s even sweeter than I anticipated and is a beautiful color!   This is a tea that I can, and will, prepare and drink every day as part of a healthier diet.  Hubby feels the same way and is not a huge fan of hot tea. 1. I find it interesting that Matcha was considered a royal drink in China, a drink befitting the emperor, and was a coveted secret of the Imperial house for many years.
