Cookies $ Cream Rice Krispie Treats

DH and I play in a fantasy football league – we are the Pigskin Pimps – reigning champs of nothing.  My mother, sister, daughter, sister-in-law and I have an awesome girl team called the Nut Crackers!  Our fantasy draft is coming up soon….

(I’ll wait while you all cheer for football season.)

…and that always calls for a Draft Party and football food!  One of our favorites has always been Rice Krispie Treats, but when my daughter shared this recipe for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats that she had enjoyed at school, I knew this was one I had to try. These little beauties have all the yummy, nostalgic goodness of a krispie treat and the rich, chocolaty awesomeness of Oreo cookies.   I *heart* these so much!

Cookies & Creme Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispie Cereal
  • 24 Oreos – regular are fine, but Double Stuff are extra fine!
  • 5 cups of marshmallows (NOTE: a 10 oz. bag is about 4 cups)
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • melted chocolate for drizzle optional

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13 dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, pour measured Rice Krispie Cereal.
  3. Chop and mash Oreos. You can do this by putting them in a ziplock bag to help keep the mess under control. You want the Oreos to be a variety of sizes from chunky to finely crushed.
  4. Add Oreos to Rice Krispies cereal and stir to combine.
  5. In a medium sauce pan, heat butter and marshmallows together over medium heat, stirring constantly, until they melt together.
  6. Pour melted marshmallows over the cereal and Oreos and quickly combine all the ingredients.
  7. Spread the mixture into the prepared dish. Use the back of a spatula (sprayed with cooking spray or waxed paper and hands (this is the option I pick) to press and flatten and compress the treats.
  8. Cool completely, but no need to refrigerate.
  9. When the Rice Krispie treats have cooled, you can drizzle them with some white and/or dark chocolate and let it set until it hardened for a pretty finish

Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats

We all know how simple it is to make regular Rice Krispie Treats, well, this was no different. Easy and yummy!  These things won’t last long at the draft, either.

They also look really cool if you use seasonal Oreos like the red ones they have at Christmas time, or the pastel colors in the Spring.  I think I’ll try making some creepy looking treats with the orange and black Halloween Rice Krispies!
Or what about using Nutter Butters instead of Oreos?
*gasp* Imagine all the popping if you added Pop Rocks?!?!
Eek! I’ve got some work to do!   Do you add anything special to your Rice Krispie Treats?
